Obstetrical ultrasound (also referred to as sonogram) is a safe, noninvasive modality that uses sound waves to create images to evaluate the gestational age, anatomy, growth & position of your fetus, placental location and amniotic fluid volume. The procedure is performed transabdominally and/or transvaginally if appropriate. Gynecological ultrasound evaluates the pelvis including the uterus, cervix, bladder, fallopian tubes and ovaries.
