Celebrating Juneteenth: Freedom, Family, and the Future of Health
On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all enslaved people were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. That day became known as Juneteenth, and in 2021 it was recognized as a federal holiday. It is a celebration of freedom, of family, and of a promise that took far too long to be kept.
Why Juneteenth Matters to Us as Caregivers
At Jordan & Associates OB/GYN, our work centers on families: welcoming new life, protecting the health of mothers, and walking alongside women through every stage of their lives. Juneteenth speaks directly to those values. It is a holiday rooted in the reunion of families, the freedom to build a future, and the belief that every generation deserves better than the one before.
That belief guides our care. We know that trust between patients and providers is earned, not assumed, and that historical injustices in medicine have left many Black patients with good reason to be cautious. We work every day to be worthy of your trust through transparent communication, shared decision-making, and care that treats every patient as a full partner in her own health.
Celebrating Health as an Act of Freedom
Juneteenth celebrations often center on food, music, and community, and they can also be a moment to invest in your own wellbeing. Scheduling an annual exam, keeping up with screenings, and asking questions about your reproductive health are all ways of claiming the future that Juneteenth celebrates. Your health is your foundation, and caring for it is a gift to yourself and to the people who love you.
From Our Family to Yours
This Juneteenth, Dr. Jordan and our entire team wish our patients and neighbors a joyful celebration filled with family, community, and pride. We are honored to care for this community, and we look forward to serving you for generations to come.
